Abstract
This research deals with one of the important administrative functions of the administrative system in ancient Egypt. It is a function of the Elder of the Portal smsw- hAyt, which appeared from the Old Kingdom and continued to the Late Period. The elder of the portal had many tasks inside the corridors of the halls in the royal palace or in the temples, as his judicial role ended disputes between people, and he was responsible for everything related to the temple gates like receiving offerings for the deities or official provisions. The research aims to show the role of the elder of the portal as mentioned in the Hieratic texts, and the development forms in other Hieroglyphic texts, as he is one of the important officials- in the royal palace and its judicial role in the palace or temple. There was more than an official holding the title smsw- hAyt; to finish the commissions on them either in the palace or in the temples.
