Abstract

The god Anubis played an important role in ancient Egyptian religion, as he was the protector of the cemetery, the god of the dead, and the observer of the embalming process. His worship continued until the Greco-Roman period. According to his function, his forms were evident in art, where Anubis was depicted in multiple forms, some of which are familiar, and others are depicted in unfamiliar forms. This paper will deal with those unfamiliar forms and their relevance to the functions of Anubis through the tombs of the Kharga and Dakhla oases in the Roman era, as these tombs included many of these unfamiliar forms that are rare in other places. These forms are unique to Anubis during the Greek and Roman eras and the Pharaonic eras, most of which reflected the function of Anubis in being the protector of the necropolis and the mummy. These new forms show Anubis combined with the snake of deity and the bird of the deceased
