Abstract

This study deals with an important topic of Coptic life through the familiarity with the wine in Coptic sources, which include Published documentary texts (dated between the 6th and 10th centuries A.D.), the Bible, the archaeological finds, what was mentioned in Coptic art, in addition to what historians reported about Coptic life. These sources are rich with information that focuses on many social and economic aspects, customs and folk traditions, and the religious beliefs that prevailed in this period.
The research aims to study the meanings and linguistic derivations of wine, determining all types of it and try to find out which is more common, besides studying the measures and vessels used for wine weight and its preservation, then recognizing how to prepare it. Finally, illustrate the importance of wine for the Copts and its multiple uses. It was considered the main drink in ceremonies and had a great role in medicine, some daily life transactions between individuals, and its great religious importance for the Copts
