The most recent archaeological discoveries in the northwest coast

Abstract

The northern coastal range can be distinguished as the area extending from Abu Qir, east of Alexandria, to the Libyan border in the west, bounded to the north by the current irregular coast line, while it extends to the south at different amplitudes up to the borders of the Miocene plateau. Inland, another chain divides the coast horizontally. These chains are separated by a group of longitudinal depressions. They were originally hollows formed by sea barriers, then buried by the sedimentation of the valleys into which they flowed from the Miocene limestone plateau, which is located directly behind it. These depressions have turned into rainwater reservoirs left in the event of their drying. Clay-salty soil covers the bottoms of these depressions
